Melt Cosmetics Lipstick in Dark Room

No comments :
This was my first time trying a lipstick from Melt. I love the Love Sick eyeshadow stack that I have, and when they announced that Dark Room lipstick was coming back, I decided to pick it up. I had heard so many great things about this color, but honestly now after trying it, I feel like I'm in the minority when it comes to how much I like the formula of the lipstick.

The packaging on this is pretty standard - just a plain black tube with "melt" printed on the cap.
My first issue upon receiving this was that it didn't look like the color I expected it to be. All their promo photos seemed to be much more purple, and this is more of a berry color in person. Pretty color nonetheless, but I had heard a lot about their blue lipstick being more purple in person as well, so maybe they just have to figure out their swatch pictures or something!
When they say it's "ultra matte," they're not kidding. The formula is indeed very matte, but at the same time tugs at your lips and is difficult to apply without streakiness, at least with a dark color like this. I was expecting something far more creamier from all the rave reviews these lipsticks have been getting.
You absolutely have to exfoliate and prime your lips with a good primer before wearing this, or you will look like a disaster. The ultra matte formula is unforgiving when it comes to showing dry skin on your lips. Here I applied it over NYX Lip Primer, my favorite!
I do really enjoy that this is cherry scented. You always get either unscented lipsticks or vanilla scented, so this is a nice change. Cherry is my favorite scent/flavor of ANYTHING, so that gets it huge bonus points with me! Also, because of the super matte formula, the lipstick is pretty transfer-resistant and stays on for hours without needing to be touched up. I don't find that it dries out my lips, which is another nice thing about it.

At $19 each plus $7 (yes, 7 freakin' dollars) for shipping, I just don't think the product is worth the price. I am probably going to have so many people disagreeing with me, but these are just my thoughts on trying this brand's lipsticks for the first time and I want to be honest with you guys! I LOVE their eyeshadows. Love love love them. I'm just not feeling it with the lipsticks. I have plenty of cheaper ones that perform far better and aren't as much of a hassle to apply and get an even application.

I hope this review was helpful to you, sorry it was such a bummer! If you would like to see more about this lipstick, I included it in this haul video below:
