Kat Von D Lolita Por Vida Palette

No comments :
I've had this palette since Christmas and keep forgetting to post a review. I figured now is as good a time as ever! This is seemingly the last "Kat Von D" palette, as Kat has cut ties with the company and it is now going to be known as KvD Vegan Beauty moving forward. I am hoping that the quality isn't going to take a hit, but I guess time will tell. For now, let's take a look at the Lolita Por Vida palette.
The packaging, as usual, is stunning. It's a very blush-themed palette - lots of pinks and rosy tones - so the packaging reflects that with a rosy pink color scheme. It is made of sturdy cardboard, has a big mirror inside the cover, and has a magnetic closure.
There are 18 shades inside, and a variety of finishes - there are 2 creams a pressed glitter, lots of mattes, and some metallic shades.
Preciosa is a shimmery cream.
Sonrisa is an apricot with a strong turquoise shift.
Muñeca is a matte dusty taupe.
Cruz is a bronzey shimmer.
Romantico is a shimmery amethyst.
Cariño is a matte eggplant.

La Lupe is a matte rusty orange.
Dulces Sueños is a metallic copper foil (cream).
Enamorada is a matte pale peach.
Reina is a brown, gold and copper pressed glitter.
Esperanza is a matte pale pink.
Luna is a metallic rose gold foil (cream).

Amorcito is a matte caramel brown.
Silvia is a matte cream.
Juanita is a matte deep purple brown.
Destino is shimmery cream with a pink shift.
Rosario is a metallic deep red.
Lolita Por Vida is a matte burgundy rose.

Now I'm not sure if this was meant to be the holiday palette or not (it's not HUGE like all the holiday palettes of past years!) but either way, it came out before the holidays and it does have more shades than her usual palettes in it, so I'm just going to keep thinking that this was the holiday palette for 2019. I know a lot of the previous holiday palettes had a LOT of disappointing shades in them pigmentation-wise, but I haven't found that to be the case with this one. If this is a sign of things to come, it will definitely keep me interested to see what new items are coming with the re-branding!

I am absolutely in love with the Luna cream shadow. As oily as my lids are, this applies beautifully and does not crease on me. The two cream shades are both INSANELY pigmented. I just hope that they aren't going to turn out like the creams that Kat's first few palettes had in them, where they dried out before I could even use a third of the pan, but these seem a lot smoother and creamier than those early versions. The pressed glitter is the only shade in here I don't see myself getting a lot of use out of. Other than that, the rest of it performs beautifully and it has been my go-to every day palette since I got it for Christmas! You can do super minimal and super dramatic looks with it, and I absolutely love that about it.

Kat Von D Vegan Love Eyeshadow Palette

No comments :
The Kat Von D Vegan Love Palette is the latest from Kat Von D Beauty. This is an all-shimmer, no matte palette with a mix of neutrals and bright pops of color.
The mirror on the inside is a fun heart shape. A sticker comes on the inside that alerts you that the shadows are best applied with your fingers.
There are 10 shades in the palette and, as I mentioned, none of them are matte. That's not a total deal breaker for me, as I don't mind grabbing a single shadow or another palette to work with, but I very rarely do an all-shimmer look (or an all-matte look for that matter).
Compassion is a light gold.
Activist is a bright yellow.
Sentient is an orangey copper.
Species is a medium brown.
Liberation is a black with gold glitter.
Earthling is a bright green.
Empathy is a pearlescent purple with blue duochrome.
Sanctuary is a cornflower blue.
Equality is a golden peachy champagne.
Mercy is a pinkish-red.

When they say to apply it with your fingers for best results, that's definitely right. But I have found that with some trial and error, some brushes definitely work well with the colors. Flat shader brushes will not work well at all - they just don't pick up the pigment. These shadows have both fractionated coconut oil AND dimethicone in them (both binding agents), which makes them super compressed in the pan. I tend to use my finger to apply my lid shade, but I will use a fluffy shader brush to put one of the brighter colors on the outer half of my lids. That seems to work really well, and I have actually been using this palette quite a bit. I noticed that it has pretty bad reviews on Sephora's site, but I'm wondering if that's mainly coming from people not giving it a chance and playing around with it. The shades are definitely pigmented, and I'm happier with this palette than I've been with a Kat Von D palette in a while!!

Kat Von D Lolita Palette

1 comment :
The Kat Von D Lolita Palette is going to be one you either love or hate. For one it's all mattes, and it's also all pink/mauve shades. I do love the colors but I wish there were a couple shimmery/metallic shades in here just because I'm not one to do an all-matte eye look, ever. So to use this palette I end up having to bring single shadows and other palettes into play. Not a complete deal breaker, but it's not a one-stop palette for me.
The packaging is her cardboard packaging, and it's an 8 pan palette meaning it's my favorite setup - it's sleek, easy to travel with, and easy to store. I honestly wish all her palettes were this size!
Now for my thoughts on the shadows: these are exponentially better than the mattes in her Fetish palette. I was SO DISAPPOINTED in those! These are all the creamy, blendable formula that we are used to in a KVD eyeshadow. That Fetish palette was just so hard to blend and work with.
Promesa - matte pale pinky lavender
Besitos - matte pale mauve
Recuerdos - matte plum
Hermosura - matte dusty rose
Con Amor - matte reddish brown
Lolita - matte terracotta
Corazon - matte dark purple
Eterno - matte blackened purple

Like I said, I am super happy that these mattes are back to how her mattes usually are. They're creamy, pigmented and blendable. I haven't had issues with any of these shades yet. I do like the colors, it's just definitely not a one stop shop palette for me. As long as I can bring in other shadows though, it's a keeper!

Kat Von D Fetish Palette

No comments :
Kat Von D always goes big with her holiday palettes, and the Fetish palette is no exception. I did not pick up the face palette - while I'm interested, it has been getting horrible reviews, and to be honest I really don't enjoy her super glittery highlighters. So for now, I have the shadow palette for you - let's talk about it!

The packaging is beautiful, as always. It's got a patent leather look to it, and the word on the front looks like it's embroidered. The "I" is a whip, which is quite clever.
The palette is oval, which looks nice but for me drives me crazy, because I am pretty anal about the way I store my palettes. When they're all different shapes and sizes, it just drives me nuts - I'm being nitpicky, but thought I would mention it.

The layout of the palette is pretty unique - instead of being in straight lines across, they're in a jagged pattern. There's also a decent sized mirror. The entire inside is cardboard. There are 24 shades of different finishes, so I will just get into the swatches! There are some duds in here, so I'm going to go through and leave comments next to each shade that I seem to have trouble with.

From left to right:
Nylon - matte greyish taupe
Kink - matte violet, very hard to get any pigmentation out of. It doesn't blend well and doesn't want to adhere well either.
Blindfold - metallic satiny brown
Deviant - metallic rosy mauve
Whip - matte dark brown with gold glitter
Suspension - matte deep brown. Rather chalky, lots of fallout

Rope - metallic rust
Sex - pale matte orange. Really needs to be built up, patchy.
Latex - deep navy with blue and green sparkles. Applies pretty patchy.
Obsession - matte deep teal. Such a pretty shade but VERY patchy. It tends to grab in one place and not want to blend out on the eye.
Chastity - chunky gold with glitter. Works best applied with a finger.
Shibari - metallic medium green
Corset - matte muted purple. Crumbly, lots of fallout.

Cuffs - metallic silver
La Petite Mort - matte true green. Patchy, needs to be built up, doesn't blend well.
Submissive - metallic chunky pale gold with glitter. So pretty, but needs to be applied with a finger or foiled to work well.
Rubber - matte black
Fixation - matte light beige

Knotty - matte light taupey brown
S + M - matte medium grey. A little patchy, takes some work to blend it.
Stiletto - metallic cranberry
Dominatrix - metallic cherry red (probably my favorite shade in the palette)
Bondage - matte cherry red
Safe Word - matte peachy cream

So all the ones I didn't comment on are fine - they are nicely pigmented and up to par with the usual KVD shadows. The others give me so many problems that I'm not even sure how worth it the palette is. It's pricey at $63, and none of the shades in here are anything special. It's disappointing because the KVD holiday palette is the one I look forward to most every year! There were a few years where she had some dud shades in the holiday palettes, but this one seems to take the cake. The past few years were AWESOME palettes filled with a great array of colors. This one just seems...boring?

Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Transformer Mini

No comments :
The Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Transformer Mini eyeshadow in Teal (Aquamarine) perfectly compliments the shades already in the Alchemist palette. I am not sure if there will be other single shades, but for now this is the only one available on Sephora and the KVD Beauty site.
The packaging is like a tiny version of the Alchemist palette - white with that iridescent holo rainbow effect, and triangular (which looks really cool but drives me nuts when it comes to storing it!)
The shadow DOES have a holographic effect in certain lighting, unlike the palette where all the shades are just very iridescent.
Here I show it swatched on its own and over a black eyeliner.
The formula of this shadow is very similar to the Metal Crush highlighters - more glitter than anything. I love this as a shadow but wouldn't use it much as a face highlighter because it's so incredibly glittery. It is very pretty, especially over a black base! I do like to use a stickier base with shadows like these, because the glitter will tend to fall out onto your cheeks throughout the day if you don't have something holding it down.

Kat Von D Lash Liner

No comments :
I had high hopes for the Kat Von D Lash Liner. Sadly, my opinion is very up in the air about it. This is a liquid liner made specifically for the waterline - sounds great, right? Since I've been doing makeup, I've been on the hunt for a liner that will actually stay on the waterline. So of course I needed to put this one to the test.
The applicator is very soft and has a curve to it. I really don't have any issues with this part.

Before I even got my hands on it, I had seen a video on the KVD Beauty youtube page where one of the artists was showing how to use it. You have to use a dabbing/dotting technique and not just swipe it on. Fair enough. I did just that, and it wasn't going on very dark. I've tried several different ways to get it to work for me, and I've found that drying off the waterline with a q-tip before applying it yields the best results. However, it's still quite tricky.

The problem for me is, and I've heard plenty of others say this, it's just too damn watery. It's very, VERY liquidy and therefore just wants to bleed everywhere. I have tried scraping off most of the product that's on the wand, but even that doesn't help very much.

The wear time is awesome where you can get it to stick - it usually wants to come off at the outer corners of my eyes first. I can get 8 hours tops out of it, which is much better than I could ever get out of other eyeliners on my waterline. In that aspect, it is definitely a winner. If it were a liiiiiitle thicker, or maybe even more of a cream consistency, I think it could be absolutely amazing.
You can see just by swatching it on my hand that it's not opaque, and that's because of how watery it is.

Unfortunately this isn't a product that I can rave about and tell you that you need to go run out and buy. It's worth a try if you're looking for something new, but I hope they tweak the formula in the future because it's just too much of a pain to work with.

Kat Von D 10 Year Anniversary Eyeshadow Palette

No comments :
The Kat Von D 10 Year Anniversary Eyeshadow Palette is a beauty! The gold chrome packaging and gorgeous artwork on the outside made this one I definitely had to have!
I think that other than the limited edition Mi Vida Loca palette from a few holiday seasons ago, this one has the best color selection. There's plenty of matte transition shades, some nice pops of color, and some neutrals.
There are also a few shades in here, like Alexandria and Kelly, that are pretty unique and duo-chrome, which is right up my alley!

Adele - matte chocolate
Malice - matte terracotta
Ashley - matte tangerine
Gina - matte warm yellow

Egypt - metallic yellow gold
Sylvia - matte light tan
Lala - matte olive
Leafar - metallic emerald

Melanie - matte cream
Alexandria - metallic peachy yellow with pink sparkles
Nancy - matte beige
Catherine² - metallic purple

Kelly - metallic purply brown with teal shift
Sarah - matte greyish taupe
Carolyn - matte teal
Chad - matte royal blue

This palette as a whole is gorgeous. The only shade I would like to see a little more pigmentation out of is Sarah, but that's just the slightest complaint. I really love the blendability of the mattes here, and that Kelly shade is so freakin' gorgeous! In the pan it looks like just another brown-with-teal-shift shadow, but it's got this purple hue to it that just makes it stunning and like nothing else that I have in my collection!

I hope you all enjoyed my little review/swatchfest. This palette is limited edition and can be found at Kat Von D Beauty and Sephora.

Kat Von D Signature Brow Precision Pencil in Dark Brown

No comments :
The KVD Signature Brow Precision Pencils recently launched, along with a whole line of pomades and powders. I just picked up one of the pencils for now, but have a feeling I will be going back for a pomade and powder soon!
The pencil is very, very thing and the tip is unlike any brow pencil I've seen before. It's super thin, but oval shaped - meaning you can use the wide side for filling in and the super thin sides for creating fine lines. The pencil twists up, so there's no sharpening involved, which I always appreciate.
The formula, though, is not as smooth as I wish it was. It tends to skip and drag and doesn't glide on as smoothly as I would expect a $20 brow pencil to. It's not often that I dislike a KVD product, but this one falls short for me. The color is absolutely spot on perfect for me, but the formula leaves something to be desired.

Kat Von D 10 Year Anniversary Metal Crush Extreme Highlighter in Gold Skool

No comments :
I've been patiently waiting for the Kat Von D line to come out with highlighters. We first got the Metal Crush palette which, while pretty, was super duper glittery and not very "every day use" to me. With Gold Skool Extreme Highlighter, we get more of the same.
What drew me to this is that it looks like a white pearl powder with lots of gold shimmer. Upon swatching, there's really no white in it and it's more of a sheer, super fine glitter.
Don't get me wrong - this is gorgeous! The fact that it has that sheerness will make it work for pretty much any skin tone. I do like glowing, blinding highlights but this one is definitely glitter to the extreme. I don't find it to be an every day wearable shade for me, but will definitely use it more as an eyeshadow! The formula is smooth, and I am hoping for more shades in the future that will be a little less glitter-filled, because I would love to see some with a pearl/iridescent finish to them!

This baby is limited edition for the 10 Year Anniversary Collection, and can be found on katvondbeauty.com and Sephora.
