Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick Set

No comments :
The Kat Von D Lipstick set for this year is called the Studded Kiss Lipstick Set, and I ended up getting this in the store after I said I wasn't going to get it! I had ordered the palette online, but I skipped this because I was disappointed in the Coven lipstick that I bought, plus I had also swatched all the other new shades and they were all dry and patchy. For some reason, I swatched some of the minis in the display for this set, and they feel totally different than the full size lipsticks! I know, it's really odd, but maybe they're fixing the formula? At any rate, let me show you all the shades in this one ...

You get 9 colors, and they all come in this thin, sleek box:

The lipsticks are mini versions of the studded tubes - very cute!

The first shade is Contessa. This is an orange based red.
As you can see, it's a little weird looking, but it came like that! I normally don't like orangey reds, but this one is quite pretty. Very bright!

Agatha is a pink toned nude.

This color has been around a while and has always been one of my go-to nudes. It's nude without making you look super washed out and sickly!

Adora is a metallic apple red.
I believe this was Kat's first "metallic" lipstick in her line. Again, it's got some extra product stuck to it! They have definitely improved the metallic shades because they're not gritty and dry anymore, but this also doesn't seem as metallic as it used to be.

Sexer is a blue based hot pink.
This color is right up my alley. It has slight flashes of blue when it hits certain lights, which makes it extra cool!

Wonderchilde is an iridescent purple with hint of violet glitter.
This looks a lot darker than it applies. It's actually more fuschia-ish than it looks. It's also a sheerer color than the rest of the lipsticks, but it's definitely buildable. I like it a lot!

Bachelorette is a pinkish berry shade.
This is one of my favorites, and it was one of my favorites in last year's set as well. It's a great color for the fall and the holidays!

Motorhead is a really deep burgundy.
It almost looks black in the tube, but you'll see in the swatch that it's definitely not! This one gives me a little bit of an issue because it never wants to apply evenly. You definitely need a berry lip liner first to get this one to apply nicely.

Lovecraft is a nice mauvey pink.
This is one of those "my lips but better" shades, for me anyway. I believe this was also in one of her previous sets and I used up almost the whole tube of it, so I'm glad it was included again!

Hexagram is a classic deep red.
I know Underage Red is usually included in these sets because it's your classic bright blue based red, but this one is a few shades darker and I actually really love it! This is another great color that's going to get a lot of use during the holidays!

So to be completely honest, this set changed my views on the new KVD lipsticks. I have no idea why the full sizes were so dry and patchy for me, but I have heard from several people that they were the same way for them. Maybe those of us who bought them right away got a bad batch? Perhaps they're working on the formula to make them better? It's a mystery! All I know is that you're much better off getting this set with 9 different shades to try for $39 than spending $21 on ONE full size tube if it's a hit or miss on whether or not it will actually apply nicely. It's a much better deal to go for the set! :)
