L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints: $4 Dupe for Too Faced Melted Lipsticks??

No comments :
These Glazed Lip Paints from L.A. Girl have been getting a lot of attention for being strikingly similar to the new Too Faced Melted Lipsticks. At only $4, they are $17 cheaper than the Too Faced ones. But do they perform as well? I picked up 3 of them, and I'm going to go over the similarities and differences between these and the Too Faced Melted Lipstick.

This color is Bombshell, a hot pink. It is the closest to the Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Fuchsia, which is the only one of them that I own - so I will be comparing the two at the end of this post!
The formula of these is great - not too thick, not too thin, and EXTREMELY pigmented. I prefer to use a lip brush to apply these because it's always easier when dealing with a pigmented, opaque product like this.

Next up is Coy, which is a purple shade. It is an out-there color, yes, but I think it's pretty wearable. I normally think purples look weird on me but I absolutely love this one!!

Last is Pin-Up, a gorgeous true red shade:
And for the heck of it, a kissy face with Ursula in the back! hahaha

Now to compare with Too Faced....
The packaging is obviously different, but has some similarities.

With both, the tubes are the colors of the product inside, and the caps are gold. However, Too Faced has a velvet-tip applicator that the product beads up through, and L.A. Girl just has an average lipgloss-type applicator.

Too Faced Melted Lipstick:
L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint:
This isn't a big deal for me because I'm not a huge fan of either type of applicator - I prefer to just squeeze out what I need and use a brush to apply both products.

The two products are very similar in pigmentation, which I wasn't expecting. I had the Too Faced one for a few days to try out before I tried the L.A. Girl ones, and I expected those to pale in comparison because the Too Faced one was so extremely opaque. The L.A. Girl ones definitely hold up in the pigmentation area!

The scent is a big difference between the two - while the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks have a very pleasant berry scent, the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints have a menthol scent that is definitely one of my least favorite scents when it comes to lip products. However, it doesn't linger long so it isn't a deal breaker.

Here is the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Bombshell on the left, and Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Fuchsia on the right:
Pretty darn close in color, right? There are 6 shades in each and the L.A. Girl ones all seem to match up with the Too Faced shades.

The finishes are a little different - the L.A. Girl shades stay looking shiny and glossy, while the Too Faced one dries down to a pretty matte finish.

Lasting time isn't incredibly different - I didn't notice fading with the Too Faced one until about 6 hours in, and even then it still looked pretty good. I get about 5 hours with the L.A. Girl ones, unless I'm eating something - I notice they'll fade a lot more during a meal than the Too Faced ones do. But for $4? They're a pretty close and amazing dupe!!

The only place I know of to get the L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paints so far is their website, lagirlusa.com - at the time I'm writing this post they look like they're all sold out so I guess everyone has caught on to how awesome they are! Keep checking back, though!!
