Hourglass 3 Piece VIB Set from Sephora

No comments :
This cute little sample set was available to VIBs for free with a promo code a few weeks ago. I've been wanting to try Hourglass products for a while, but they're pretty pricey. I figured this was a great way to get to try out a few of their products! (And there's some gems in here!)

The set came with 3 deluxe samples: the Veil Mineral Primer, the Primer Serum, and the Opaque Rouge liquid lipstick in the color Icon, an awesome blue-toned red.

Even their sample packaging is pretty! The Veil Mineral Primer is in a glass tube and the applicator is sort of a spatula-type deal.
This doesn't have much of a scent, and sinks into your skin amazingly well. It is AWESOME for those with oily skin. Seriously. It is intended to keep oil at bay and it is like it soaks it right up because this makes my makeup last all day long and keeps me from being shiny. It also has an SPF of 15. The full size of this is 1oz. and retails for $52. Pretty pricey for a primer. Luckily it is available in a smaller .33oz. size for $18, which is totally worth it. A little of this goes a long way - this sample size is .16oz. so it's about half the size of the $18 one, and I can tell it's going to take me a while to go through it. I'll definitely consider repurchasing once I've used it up!

Next we have the Primer Serum, which is in the same packaging as the Primer.
This stuff is clear, and is meant to be put on first, before your makeup and primer and everything else. I wouldn't recommend this for oily skin, though I think it will work wonderfully for dry skin types. It feels extremely oily when you first put it on, even with the tiniest bit. It's very, very moisturizing but I find it doesn't work great with my oily skin. Used under the Veil Mineral Primer it isn't too bad, but it still makes me shiny whereas when I just use the Veil Mineral Primer and my regular face moisturizer, it helps keep my shinyness at bay all day long. This one runs a whopping $65 for 1oz. or $22 for .33oz. I didn't like this for me personally, but like I said if you have dry skin you will most likely love this.

Last is their Opaque Rouge liquid lipstick in the color Icon. I fell in love with this red. I fell in love with this product, actually, and need to break down and buy a full size in another color, I think.
It has a sponge tip applicator, which isn't the easiest thing to apply this with. It is a very fickle product with how it applies but once you figure it out, it gets an A+ in my book. Let me explain...the first time I used it, I made a mess. It is extremely opaque and hard to get it precise on your lips. Nothing bothers me more than a bold lip that looks messy around the edges. A lip brush wasn't the greatest either - if you keep going over spots, it tends to get very sticky. Plus, the color builds up so it is darker in the spots that you go over.

After a few tries, I VERY carefully applied one thin layer with the applicator and this is when I fell in love with it. You don't get the sticky feeling with just the one layer. And all you need is one, because it is so opaque. I've been getting more into wearing reds lately and this one is just completely perfect in every way. And you know what? Once it sets, it doesn't transfer. It is very similar to the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks that I always rave about. These run $28 each which is crazy for a lipstick (though I know there are even more expensive ones out there) but I just may be crazy enough to go for it and get one. I'm going to say it's worth it because it's such a high quality, long wearing lipstick. Hopefully the other colors are just as amazing!

Hope you guys enjoyed this review - I featured this set in one of my haul videos, but my editing program goofed and messed up half of the part where I talked about this, so be forewarned that the screen turns green when I start talking about the lipstick from about 2:38-5:15, and after that the rest of the video is fine lol:
