Considering my birthday was last month, I think I should review this! The Beauty Insider gift this year is from NARS, and VIB Rouge members get an extra item, the mini eyeliner.
You get 2 decent sized lip pencils and a mini eyeliner. I have the liner from a NARS order I made a while ago, and I was never too impressed with it. I thought I had already reviewed it so I didn't snap a picture of a swatch of it, but it's just not as black as I usually like, and it doesn't stay on that well, for me anyway!
The first pencil is Cruella (I love the name). It is a Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, and it's a nice true, blue based red.
It has an almost berry scent/taste to it like the Bite Beauty lipsticks do.
It is very matte, but doesn't feel drying on the lips. It's pretty transfer proof considering it's not one of the liquid formulas that everybody loves lately, and it's super long lasting. I can get about 5 hours of wear out of this shade before it starts fading on me.
Rikugen is a Satin Lip Pencil. This doesn't show up too well on my lips, it just gives them a nice shine:
The formula is moisturizing and comfortable, but it doesn't seem to have that berry scent to it that the matte one does. This only lasts an hour or so before needing to reapply, but it is nice for those "no makeup makeup" days when you don't want too much on your lips.
The one thing I dislike about these pencils is that you have to sharpen them - they don't twist up. I despise having to sharpen pencil products because they always break on me at one point or another!! Twist-ups are where it's at!!
Overall, they are both nice lip products. I will say I like the matte one better, just because of the color payoff and longer staying power, but it's definitely a cute little set and I'm glad it was the birthday gift this year!
