tarte Tarteist Clay Paint Liner

No comments :
The new Tarteist Clay Paint liner intrigued me - I always like trying out new types of liners. Unfortunately, this one is just not for me. Some people might love it, but I haven't been able to get on board with it no matter how I try. Let me explain!

First off, it comes with a bent liner brush, my FAVORITE type to apply liquid and cream liners with. That was a win right off the bat. It is a mini size, but not so small that you can't use it for anything. The bristles are soft and I really like it.

Then we have the liner itself. Before I even got it and opened it up, I thought it was weird that it was in a squeeze tube. Not very convenient, to say the least.
When you get to the inside, there's a little concave almost spoon-like looking tip where the product comes out.
No matter how carefully you squeeze, it always dispenses far more product than you're going to need to line 2 eyes. From there, you work with the product in the little "spoon" area, taking it with your brush as needed. I don't like this, because you have to wipe away the excess when you're done so it doesn't dry up and pile up in there, and to me that's a huge waste of product.

The products itself seems like a liquid-cream hybrid. Here are some swatches, first with flash and then without:

More issues I have with this: It takes forever to dry. It is supposed to be waterproof, but still smudges. It is pretty black and nicely pigmented. It doesn't give you a clear, crisp line like you can get with liners like the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. I just all-around don't really like this stuff! At $24 this is like another Benefit "Push Up Liner" situation all over again - I was never a big fan of that one either!

Maybe I'm just too set in my ways of pen/pencil liners, cream liners in a pot, and liquid liners to choose this over one of those. It's so inconvenient and so much more work to do my eye makeup with this liner as opposed to my usuals. In my opinion, it's not worth it. I totally wasn't expecting to dislike this as much as I do, but I had to share my honest opinions with you guys here. I am not a fan!

I even recorded a first impressions video the first time I tried this liner - you can view that here:
